Social responsibility
As one of the largest chemistry departments in the country, we make it our duty to carry socially responsible values in everything we do.
Research with impact
The aim of our research is to address the great challenges faced by our society, and the impact of that research is evident across society and industry.
Socially responsible graduates
We support the University's Ethical Grand Challenges, giving our undergraduate students the opportunity to explore the sustainability, social justice and workplace ethics challenges of the 21st century.
Engaging our communities
We're committed to inspiring tomorrow's chemists and engaging the wider community in chemistry. We offer a wide range of demonstration lectures, careers information and hands-on science activities to primary and secondary schools, as well as to colleges and the general public.
Environmental sustainability
Our research, teaching and activities are guided by our commitment to environmental sustainability.
Responsible processes
We're proud to hold an Athena SWAN Silver Award. This award, run by the Equality Challenge Unit, recognises the Department of Chemistry's commitment to addressing gender inequalities and promoting values of equality, diversity and inclusion.
